Stainless Steel 409 Tubing is generally composed of iron containing 10.5–11.75% chromium, with very minute contents of carbon and nickel. Meant for high-temperature and corrosion-resistant use, SS 409 has a tensile strength of ~380 MPa, yield strength of ~240 MPa, and elongation of approximately 20%. It has good resistance to oxidation in exhaust atmospheres and is structurally stable under thermal stress. A cost-effective ferritic stainless steel, it has good weldability and moderate corrosion resistance, which makes it suitable for automotive and industrial uses.
